Reseña Biográfica (Extensa)

 

Francisco Marcellán es un investigador matemático que ha participado muy activamente en la comunidad científica nacional e internacional. Recibió el título de Licenciado en matemáticas por la Universidad de Zaragoza, España, en 1973 y el PhD en matemáticas por la misma universidad en 1976. Su  campo de  especialización científica cubre la Teoría de Aproximación, Polinomios Ortogonales, Funciones Especiales, así como el Análisis Matricial. Ha sido profesor en las universidades de Zaragoza (Profesor Encargado de Curso, Profesor Agregado Interino, Profesor Adjunto), Santiago de Compostela (Agregado de Universidad), Politécnica de Madrid (Agregado de Universidad y Catedrático de Universidad)  y en la actualidad es Catedrático de Matemática Aplicada en el Departamento de Matemáticas de UC3M asi como investigador adscrito al Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT) CSIC-UCM-UC3M-UAM.           Posee una dilatada experiencia profesional en instituciones de educación superior extranjeras como  investigador en las universidades Paul Sabatier (Toulouse, Francia), Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris, Francia), Denis Diderot (Paris, Francia), Sciences et Techniques (Lille, Francia), Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, USA), Coimbra (Portugal). Asimismo, ha sido Pesquisador Visitante Especial CAPES, Brasil, programa Ciencia sem Fronteiras  en la Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP).

Figura como  autor de 274 publicaciones en revistas especializadas, 34 publicaciones en proceedings de Congresos y obras colectivas (con evaluación externa), y 12 publicaciones en obras colectivas. Más detalles pueden consultarse en la página web personal. En MathSciNet aparecen recensionadas 325 publicaciones, de las que soy co-autor, con 1859 citas. En Google Scholar el número de citas es de 4186 con índice h=30.

Ha dirigido 39 Tesis Doctorales y participado como miembro de las Comisiones de evaluación de 124  tesis doctorales  en España, Francia, Estados Unidos, India, Túnez, Sudáfrica, entre otros países. Su actividad como conferenciante invitado en  105 congresos nacionales e internacionales. se complementa con sus tareas como organizador y/o miembro del comité científico de 93 congresos nacionales e internacionales. Así mismo ha participado como investigador principal o colaborador en 26 proyectos con financiación competitiva en España o  a nivel internacional. Pertenece a los comités editoriales de las revistas Journal of Approximation Theory, Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis, Journal of Applied Mathematics, Revista Colombiana de Matemáticas, Revista de la Academia Colombiana de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales y ha sido editor de 25 actas de congresos internacionales.

Ha sido Program Director y Chair  SIAM Activity Group in Orthogonal Polynomials and Special Functions. En la actualidad es académico correspondiente de la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales de Zaragoza, Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales de Colombia y Academia de Ciencias Matematicas, Fisico-Quimicas y Naturales de Granada. Ha formado parte de la Junta directiva de la Real Sociedad Matemática Española (RSME) como Vicepresidente Primero  y en la actualidad es su Presidente desde Octubre 2015.

En tareas de gestión ha sido Vicerrector de Investigación en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Director de la  Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación  (ANECA) y Secretario General de Política Científica y Tecnológica en el Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia de España.
